Microphlebectomy also known as ambulatory phlebectomy, is a type of surgery commonly used to remove large bulging veins. Occasionally, varicose veins near the surface of the skin are too large to treat with sclerotherapy and are too small to treat with laser ablation. In these cases, this procedure is sometimes recommended to treat unsightly or painful leg veins close to the skin’s surface.
With this technique, varicose veins are removed through small punctures, which leave virtually no scars. This procedure differs significantly from vein stripping and should not be confused with that procedure.
Microphlebectomy is a safe procedure that may be done in-office using local anesthesia.
